Those interested in the History Graduate Program at Illinois State University should first fill out a graduate school application. The graduate school application requires official transcripts from each college or university at which a student earned undergraduate, graduate, or non-degree credit.
Requirements for admission to the program include:
Undergraduate degree in History or related field
A personal statement of 250-500 words that explains why you hope to pursue a graduate degree in history: highlight academic or life experiences that have shaped your intellectual development; describe your particular areas of interest in the field of history; explain what you hope to achieve or accomplish as a graduate student in history.
Sample of written work (ex: a research paper of 10-20 pages)
All of these materials can be uploaded into the online application.
2 letters of recommendation, preferably from those familiar with your academic work, can also be uploaded or sent directly to the department at:
c/o Faith Ten Haken Campus Box 4420 Normal, IL 61790-4420
The History Department does not require but does accept GRE scores
Fall Admission: January 31
Spring Admission: October 15
The department does accept applications after each deadline date, but cannot guarantee that admission can be granted sufficiently early to allow for enrollment the following term. Late applicants also lower their chances for receiving tuition waivers and Graduate Assistantships.
