Dr. Reger specializes in Early Modern European and Russian military organization and command structure. His research interests include comparative world frontiers, cultural history, and intellectual history. He has published several articles on European mercenaries in the service of the Russian tsar during the 17th century, and is currently working on a book on the Thirteen Years' War (1654-67).
